Kentucky women’s basketball undervalued yet again in AP Top 25 Poll

The Kentucky women's basketball program continues to dominate on the floor. They just finished a week in which they beat two programs by more than 30 points; one of those teams was a Big-10 opponent in Purdue. It seems as if the Lady Cats are only getting better. They've only had one hiccup against a 16th-ranked (at the time) North Carolina team on the road. Kentucky women's basketball will spend another week in the AP Top 25 Poll, ranked 16th.

North Carolina may be partly to blame for the lack of respect that Kentucky continues to find in the AP Poll because North Carolina was ranked 16 and has dropped to 19th after their own loss to Georgia Tech.

The other problem is that there just aren't many top teams playing each other right now, and not many of the top 15 are finding their way through the early schedule without losses or at least bad losses. Five teams in the top 15 still haven't lost, and only eight have had one loss. If you just did the math in your head, you can tell there are two teams higher than Kentucky that have two losses. Those teams are Duke and Notre Dame. Duke has lost to two other ranked teams, one being South Carolina and one being Maryland. On the other hand, the Fighting Irish have lost to a ranked TCU and an unranked Utah.

Why is the Notre Dame team still ranked so high at #3 in the nation? Probably because they also have three top-5 wins on their resume. They are being rewarded for having one of the most challenging schedules in women's basketball.

The Kentucky women deserve to be higher, but until the women's programs start to get into their conference play schedules, Kentucky may hover around 15.
