Kentucky women’s basketball lands Liberty guard Asia Boone in transfer portal

Kenny Brooks continues to try and replace the parts that left. This pickup allows Brooks to have better spacing and more 3 point shooting.

The Kentucky women’s basketball team has landed its second transfer portal commitment this offseason, and this one should look familiar to Big Blue Nation. Liberty guard Asia Boone is officially heading to UK, fresh off a strong sophomore season and a narrow NCAA Tournament loss to the Wildcats.

Boone, a 5-foot-8 guard from San Diego, averaged 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game this past season for the Flames. She shot 36.9% from beyond the arc, going 62-of-168 from deep — a clear sign that Kenny Brooks is targeting shooters in this new-look roster.

Though Liberty fell 80-79 to Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Boone didn’t get her usual run in that matchup, playing just five minutes and scoring one point. But don’t let that cameo fool you — she was a major contributor all year long, scoring in double figures 19 times and showing off a consistent perimeter stroke.

What Boone brings to the Wildcats

Consistent Shooting: While she didn’t cross the 40% mark from three, Boone’s volume and confidence speak volumes. She was one of the most reliable shooters on a tournament team and gives Kentucky a serious upgrade in that department.

Experience: With 67 games under her belt and back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons, Boone enters the SEC battle-tested and ready to contribute.

Versatility: Boone can operate on or off the ball and proved at Liberty she can thrive in different systems. Her IQ, spacing, and ability to move without the ball will be crucial in Brooks' up-tempo offense.

The big picture for Kentucky

Boone becomes the second portal pickup for Kenny Brooks, joining what’s shaping up to be a strong transfer class as the Wildcats transition into a new era. Brooks took over in March after Kyra Elzy’s departure and has emphasized shooting, pace, and a fresh identity for the program.

Kentucky’s thrilling win over Liberty in the NCAA Tournament was a step forward, but Brooks wants to build a roster that can consistently compete — and adding a proven shooter like Boone is a savvy move in that direction.

With a full offseason ahead and more transfer targets expected, the future is starting to take shape. Boone may not be the biggest name in the portal, but her game speaks for itself — and she’s now ready to do it in blue and white.
