Kentucky Wildcats vs. Auburn Tigers matchup history: Who won last time they played?

Kentucky and Auburn have played 34 times since 1934, and the Tigers are on a three-game win streak. What can history tell us about the matchup on Saturday?

It has been four years since Kentucky has faced off against Auburn, and only 34 times in their history. The Kentucky Wildcats and the Auburn Tigers do not have a deep, storied history; they often spend years without playing each other. They haven't played in back-to-back years since 2009 and 2010.

The history does not favor Kentucky in the slightest. Auburn has won 20 of those 34 meetings, there has been one tie in a weird 14-14 game in 1955. Which means, quick math, Kentucky has only won six times. Mark Stoops has never beaten Auburn. Granted, he has only faced them twice. Dating back to Joker Phillips, Kentucky has lost three straight to the Tigers.

The last time Kentucky beat Auburn was in 2009, with Rich Brooks as the coach and Morgan Newton at quarterback. They won that game 21-14 in Auburn, Alabama. You have to go back to 1966 to find Kentucky's next win.

The history of this matchup does not bode well for the Wildcats. Now, Auburn is in a down year, and this would be the time to take them down and get another win in the history books. The problem with that strategy is that Kentucky has looked lost since the Ole Miss game. They have beaten themselves, and their last game against Florida was a true "butt-whooping," as Coach Mark Stoops called it.

Hugh Freeze, like Billy Napier (last week), is coaching for his job or at least to get himself off the hot seat. You could argue that Mark Stoops is, too, but Freeze's buyout is a lot less than Stoops's, and Auburn may be willing to pull that trigger. Both of these programs desperately need a win.

Auburn is 0-4 in the SEC this season, and Kentucky is 1-4. This is truly a basement of the SEC game, and both fanbases are frustrated with where their football teams are this year. The good news is that one of these teams has to win, which I guess is the bad news, too, for the other team.

If history is any indication, this isn't favorable for Kentucky. Hopefully, this is the year Stoops can break through and beat the Tigers.
