Kentucky pummels Murray State, but calls for Mark Stoops' firing only grow louder.

The Kentucky Wildcats had no trouble beating Murray State, which is absolutely no surprise to anyone. Murray State is one of the worst football teams in 2024 and it was always going to be a blowout. However, it wasn't pretty. The game was full of sloppy play by the Wildcats and so many undisciplined penalties. The entire third quarter was almost unwatchable with how many flags were tossed out; at one point, there were seven plays in a row with a flag thrown.
Kentucky fans barely showed up to the game and struggled to stay engaged as they watched. The calls for Mark Stoops to be fired only grew stronger and stronger. His name was even trending during the game, and not for a good reason.
Some are even so frustrated with Stoops that he deserves to be fired and not even given the chance to retire. This showcases more frustration than reality, as the University of Kentucky would love not to pay a $44 million buyout.
Many fans are also referencing today's low attendance as a way to boycott Stoops. We also heard some booing at different points in the game, mainly after quarterback Brock Vandagriff threw an interception. Fans are sick of it.
The game was lopsided but it did help many fans realize just how far Kentucky is from being elite. For the team to be sloppy, full of penalties, make stupid decisions, and generally not look that interested in competing on every play, showcased how Mark Stoops doesn't get his team prepared for these games very well. Which is actually something that Stoops even referenced in his weekly press conference this week. How frustrated he gets in these games because his team struggles in them.
To make matters worse, today Curt Cignetti, the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, signed a new contract extension that pays him around $8 million a year—less than Stoops at a "basketball" school. This just reminded fans how frustrating the contract that Kentucky and coach Stoops signed in 2021 is.
