Kentucky legend Bam Adebayo just etched himself into NBA lore after passing Kobe Bryant

What a wild week it has been for 2 former Cats in the NBA.

Any time you mention yourself in the same sentence as Wilt Chamberlain, you know you have done something worthy of history. Not one, but two former Cats find themselves in the same company as Wilt the Stilt.

Bam Adebayo now has the 2nd most points scored in a single game in NBA history

Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points back in 1962; no one got within 20 points of that until Kobe Bryant scored 81 in 2006. And former Kentucky basketball big man Bam Adebayo just got even closer.

Bam was unconscious in a game against the Wizards, going 20-43 from the floor and an absolutely incredible 36-43 from the free-throw line.

43 free thows, one game, one person.

He would finish the night with 83 points, and 9 rebounds.

But wait, there's more.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ties 20+ point streak

With a victory over the Denver Nuggets on Monday, former Kentucky point guard and current NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had his 126th consecutive 20-point game on March 9, 2026. That ties him with Wil Chamberlain for the most 20-point games in a row. He will look to break that streak Thursday night when the Thunder take on the Boston Celtics, who just got Jayson Tatum back from injury.

What a year it has been for SGA, who was named Finals MVP as his Oklahoma City Thunder knocked off the Indiana Pacers in 7 games to capture the city's first NBA title. He also picked up an NBA MVP award just for good measure.

Kentucky basketball continues to make history

There is no place like Lexington when it comes to basketball, the history, the players, the fans, it really is a special place. The players that come through the tunnels of Rupp Arena continue to shape what the NBA looks like.

While this year's Kentucky team is getting ready for an SEC Tournament run, former Cats in the NBA are making history.
