Kentucky legend Anthony Davis reveals lofty goals for Wildcats this season
By Mark Knight
Anthony Davis, one of the best NBA players and one of the best players to ever play at Kentucky, was asked on ESPN Sports Center this week about his former school. The new coach and his thoughts on the new look of Wildcats. Davis was excited, and while he mentioned that he was sad about coach John Calipari moving on, he admitted it was time.
In the interview, Davis said, "They are looking good right now! They are looking really good... I'm loving the coach, I'm loving the team. Hopefully, we can get banner number nine this year." The Sports Center anchor said, "Pope is hope!" to end that segment of the interview.
"Hopefully, we can get banner number nine this year!"
This sentiment that the goal is banner number nine is the same message Mark Pope has been preaching since he got here. The goal is banners; the goal is championships. They aren't going to settle for less, and that ripple is even felt by alumni and former legends like Anthony Davis.
Davis is having another exceptional year in the NBA in the early part of the season. He's averaging over 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game. The NBA season is still young, with Davis having only played in eight games, but he is consistently one of the best players in the league. He represents Kentucky well in so many ways.
The Kentucky Wildcats are 2-0 to start the year with wins against Wright State and Bucknell. They take on their first huge test of the season by facing off against Duke in the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday, November 12th, on ESPN. This isn't a win-or-bust game this early in the season, but it will be a litmus test for the start of this season.
