Kentucky guard Zoom Diallo says 'big kid' Franck Kepnang is the ultimate teammate

Zoom Diallo is reuniting with Franck Kepnang in Lexington, citing the transfer as a 'big kid' and the ideal teammate.

The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh away. After yet another offseason carousel that saw most of Mark Pope and Kentucky's roster turn over once more, few familiar faces remain in an otherwise fresh batch of Cats in Lexington; that is, as far as the Big Blue Nation goes.

For Zoom Diallo and Franck Kepnang, the move to the Bluegrass is simply another opportunity to be teammates. In fact, according to Diallo, Kepnang is the ultimate lovable big man that should take no time at all in winning this fanbase over (per Connor Sturgill and FOX 56 News).

"Even though he's a big, intimidating-looking guy, he's a friendly, happy, big kid," Diallo began. The pair have spent the last two seasons together with Washington, often connecting on lobs and off screens as two of the Huskies' more compelling pieces.

And a "big kid" Kepnang is. Entering his seventh year of college hoops due to previous (hopefully long gone) spells of injury, the 6-foot-11, 253 lbs five-man is the ultimate physical presence in the post. Apparently, he also just happens to be the ultimate teammate.

"He's a dude that, even if I'm having a bad day or if I'm down, I can look at Franck and laugh." Diallo went on to compare Kepnang to a big brother-like figure for him, one that "BBN is gonna love..."

A Big BBN Will Love

Kentucky fans embrace just about every guy who wears the blue and white, but it's also true that some guys transcend that usual beloved status and become something more to the best fans in college sports.

Take Oscar Tshiebwe or, more recently, Otega Oweh as prime examples of players who did the most on and off the floor to build something more for themselves in Lexington. What happens on the floor at Rupp Arena generally matters the most to fans, but being a flat-out cool dude goes a long way too.

Kepnang looks to check both of those boxes in what will be, from every apparent angle, his last season of college basketball. As Diallo mans the starting backcourt, beginning what could be his own two-year stretch as a Wildcat, we'll look forward to at least 32 (fingers crossed for 40) games of their Washington tether translating to the Cats' home court.

What's more, between Kepnang and Malachi Moreno, Kentucky should have more than enough force to contend with the SEC's beat-em-up style down low. On paper, at least, the days of being run out of the paint by one of Florida's dozen 7-footers are finally behind us.

In the words of Diallo, on Kepnang: "He's gonna go in there and you're gonna feel his presence." 'Nuff said.
