Kenny Brooks signed three McDonald's All-Americans to the Wildcats' incoming roster. Among that star-studded group is Maddyn Greenway - but the Minnesota athlete isn't just a basketball player. Greenway competes in track and field, too, and is a highly decorated runner in the hurdles.
In hurdle competitions, runners sprint towards the finish but, of course, hurdles stand in the way. It's an incredibly demanding practice that requires as much discipline and athleticism as any other serious sport. That athleticism will come in handy in Lexington - for now, though, Greenway is continuing a historic high school career that preceded her commitment to Kentucky.
Over this past weekend, Greenway and her Providence High School teammates ran in the state finals, and she showcased elite physical intangibles to such an extent that she broke a record.
Greenway is Breaking Records
Greenway, who also set the hurdles record last year, apparently wasn't satisfied with that already impressive run. She shaved nearly a full second off her time, which led to Greenway winning her third straight class AA title.
A winner is a winner, no matter the sport. Check out this clip from the run on NSPN - Minnesota on X.
Make that a 3-peat and a new Class AA record! Maddyn Greenway wins the 300M Hurdles with a time of 41.88! #MSHSL @maddyngreenway @ProvidenceLions pic.twitter.com/uoebaXW0pg

Greenway ran a 41.88 this time around after last year's 42.58 performance as a junior... but she wasn't done there.
Special in Every Sport
Greenway also ran in the 4x4 relay race. That's a competition with four runners, each going the length of 400 meters around the track and handing off a baton to the next runner. Greenway was part of the AA state title win there as well. And, big-time shocker, set another record. Her team completed the relay in historic 3.51.48 time, per CCX Sports.
Kentucky is getting an elite and truly special athlete with skills that reach far beyond the basketball court, but what she does on that court is just as special.
Across the 32 games in her senior high school season on the hardwood, Greenway led the country in made field goals and was third in assists, per MaxPreps. She averaged 36.5 points, 9.4 assists, 7.1 rebounds, and an absurd 6.1 steals per game on 48% shooting. Every single one of those metrics is great, but all put together? This is a truly absurd profile.
Greenway will form a strong trio with fellow freshman Emily McDonald and Saavy Swords to shape the next generation of Wildcats, given star senior Clara Strack will have to graduate this year. Kenny Brooks found a gem in his backcourt: Maddyn Greenway looks to be the real deal.
