While much of the focus this week has been on the schedule release and the quarterback position, head coach Mark Stoops took time in his press conference to praise a trio of emerging players who are becoming cornerstones for the Wildcats on both sides of the ball.
3 Elite Kentucky football playmakers emerging
1. Seth McGowan, running back

After a winding college journey, Seth McGowan has found a home in Kentucky's backfield and is quickly becoming a star. He has already amassed 275 rushing yards and a team-high 6 touchdowns. "Seth is emerging as one of our... more dynamic players on the offensive side of the ball and it doesn't surprise us," Stoops said. His powerful running style will be critical against South Carolina.
2. Willie Rodriguez, tight end

Sophomore tight end Willie Rodriguez is developing a special connection with his roommate, quarterback Cutter Boley. Rodriguez has 5 catches for 68 yards and a touchdown this season, making several tough, chain-moving grabs. "Willie is a very good football player that's done a good job... that's getting better. He's still very young," Stoops noted. The continued development of the Boley-to-Rodriguez connection will be vital for the passing game.
3. Kahlil Saunders, defensive lineman

On the defensive side, junior Kahlil Saunders is having a breakout season. He's been a disruptive force on the defensive line with 8 total tackles, consistently making his presence felt. But it's his growth off the field that has impressed his coach the most. "He's becoming more of a leader... he's grown up quite a bit. We're very proud of him. He's playing very well," Stoops said. Saunders will be a key figure in the effort to contain LaNorris Sellers this weekend.
