Senior Day is always an emotional time for any college football program, and Kentucky kicked off festivities by sending out social media posts celebrating departing Seniors. The Wildcats took time to honor their graduating players with their own post, with a photo and the word thank you. However, an amusing, or not so amusing, slip-up added a bit of drama to the normal festivities.

In a public display of appreciation, the Kentucky football team thanked a junior on instagram, mistaking them for a graduating senior. The player in question quickly noticed the error and responded online with, “Not a senior.” The post quickly gained traction among fans, who were both entertained by the mistake and began to wonder if the team knows something that the player doesn't.

The player in question is Junior Jarard Mosely, a defensive back from West Palm Beach, Florida. Mosely has two solo tackles on the year, both coming in a the blowout win against Murray State. Mark Stoops had earlier mentioned that attrition was needed Could this be an example of the team pushing out a player to open up a scholarship, or is it just a mix up?

With the players reaction, it is hard to judge. See for yourself below:

The mix-up highlights a uniquely modern moment in sports, where social media allows players and fans to share interactions almost instantly. Whether this was a gaffe on the social media team, a player who is graduating earlier than anticipated, a player being forced out to make room for someone else, we will never know for sure. But it does highlight an interesting point.

In a recent announcement the NCAA will require all rosters to be capped at 105 players, all of whom will be scholarship eligible beginning in 2025. Previously 85 were allowed to be on scholarship but rosters were capped at 128 players. This limits the ability of the staff to offer walk-on spots, or have deeper rosters to try and mitigate injuries for practice. Could this just be an example of the new rule forcing some changes earlier?
