Kentucky football made another splash in the transfer portal, landing its second wide receiver, Kendrick Law from Alabama. A former four-star recruit and top-90 player in the nation, Law comes to Lexington with immense potential and a tantalizing athletic profile but scant production.

Standing 5'11" and weighing 209 pounds, Law was praised as a high school prospect for his versatility and athleticism. Gabe Brooks of 247Sports described him as having "adequate height with good bulk and an athletic build," noting that Law’s skills could translate to multiple positions, including wide receiver, running back, or defensive back. His track record as a standout athlete includes a 10.48 wind-aided 100-meter time, showcasing his top-tier speed.

At Alabama, however, Law struggled to break out in a stacked receiver room. Over three seasons, his production was modest: 33 catches for 343 yards and one touchdown, with additional contributions as a rusher. His best season came in 2024, where he posted 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. While those numbers don’t leap off the page, the Wildcats are banking on Law’s raw talent to try to come in and replace proven players. One area he does excel in is run blocking, and that may be why he was coveted by this staff.

Kentucky fans are understandably eager but cautious. The departures of Barion Brown and Dane Key leave big shoes to fill, as both were proven playmakers with significant production. In their place, Kentucky has added players like Law and JJ Hester, high-upside athletes with plenty to prove at the college level.

The question now is whether Kentucky’s system and coaching staff can unlock Law’s full potential. Mark Stoops and offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan have a track record of not always maximizing talent, and the Wildcats’ 4-8 record in 2024 raises concerns about whether the program can turn things around. But instead of getting proven guys, they are banking on talent and potential.

Law’s arrival is a step in the right direction in terms of filling the WR room backup. If he can translate his athleticism into consistent production, he could be a key piece in rebuilding Kentucky’s receiving corps. Wildcats fans will be watching closely to see if Law can deliver on the promise that once made him a coveted recruit. Or if he will be another transfer portal flop under Stoops.
