The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame proudly celebrates its 23rd year by unveiling the Class of 2025 inductees, honoring those whose impact on professional football has left an indelible mark on the state. As the nation’s only state-specific Pro Football Hall of Fame, this esteemed institution continues to recognize and celebrate the legends of Kentucky football while supporting youth initiatives across the state.
Meet the Inductees
This year’s class features five exceptional honorees:
- Michael Bush (University of Louisville)Renowned for his time with the Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears, and Arizona Cardinals, Michael Bush is celebrated not only for his explosive athleticism but also for his resilience. Despite setbacks, his determination and record-setting performances on the field have made him a standout figure in Kentucky’s rich football history.
- Danny Trevathan (University of Kentucky)A native of Leesburg, Florida, Danny Trevathan rose to prominence as an All-American linebacker during his collegiate career. Drafted by the Denver Broncos, he later played a crucial role in their Super Bowl 50 victory before continuing his career with the Chicago Bears. Trevathan’s tenacity and leadership exemplify the grit and determination that define Kentucky football.
- Jim Daopoulos (University of Kentucky)Transitioning from a successful on-field officiating career to becoming the NFL’s Supervisor of Officials, Jim Daopoulos has been a stalwart of integrity and professionalism. His extensive career, which includes officiating at Super Bowl XXXIII and several playoff games, underscores his deep connection to the sport and his commitment to upholding its standards.
- Sam Gruneisen (St. Xavier High School / Villanova University)A Louisville native who made his mark as a starting center for the San Diego Chargers, Sam Gruneisen contributed to championship-caliber teams and later transitioned into coaching. His career, marked by his durability and excellence on the field, reflects the enduring spirit of Kentucky football.
- Walt Yowarsky (University of Kentucky)Walt Yowarsky’s versatility on the field was legendary. After starring under coach Bear Bryant and earning MVP honors in the Sugar Bowl, Yowarsky embarked on a multifaceted NFL career, playing multiple positions for teams including the Commanders, Lions, Giants, and the 49ers. His contributions as a player, coach, and scout have cemented his legacy in Kentucky football history.
Special Honor: The Blanton Collier Award
In addition to the class inductees, the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame will present the Blanton Collier Award for Integrity On and Off the Field to longtime NFL coach and Kentucky native Romeo Crennel (Western Kentucky University). Crennel’s storied career—as both a coach with five Super Bowl rings and a trailblazer who broke barriers as one of the first African American head coaches in the NFL—exemplifies the values of excellence and integrity that the Hall of Fame upholds.
Celebrating Kentucky’s Football Legacy
Founded in 2003, the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring the players, coaches, and contributors with ties to Kentucky who have shaped the landscape of professional football. With over 112 inductees to date, the Hall of Fame has also raised more than $1 million for youth and children’s charities.
Induction Ceremony and Community Impact
The Class of 2025 inductees will receive their Hall of Fame jackets from the Mayor of Lexington on Friday, June 27 2025. The celebration will continue at the Purple Jacket Awards Dinner at the Hilton Downtown Lexington Hotel, an event open to the public with ticket information available soon on kyprofootballhof.org. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Foster Care Council of Kentucky.
Dr. Kay Collier McLaughlin, Chair of the Hall of Fame Board of Directors, stated, “Kentucky is unique in having a professional football hall of fame that honors our state’s heroes while making a tangible difference in the lives of children.” Executive Director Frank Minnifield added, “We are excited to welcome back our Hall of Famers and introduce this year’s class to Big Blue Nation.”
