Kentucky football fans aren’t the only ones feeling the sting of a tough season after a wild ride Saturday. While the Wildcats are coming off a disappointing SEC campaign, Sunday morning wasn’t much brighter for other fanbases with high hopes either. From playoff dreams dashed to shocking upsets, here’s a look at who else woke up feeling blue.
Alabama’s playoff hopes crushed
- Oklahoma 24, No. 7 Alabama 3: The Sooners handed Alabama their third conference loss, all but ending the Tide’s playoff chances. At 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the SEC, Alabama’s storied dominance has taken a hit this season. Kentucky fans might sympathize with the frustration of unfulfilled expectations if it was not for the multiple championship banners Crimson Tide fans have to lean on.

Ole Miss’s got dunked on
- Florida 24, No. 9 Ole Miss 17: With two puzzling losses to Florida and Kentucky, the Rebels now sit at 8-3 and 4-3 in conference. Like Alabama, their playoff hopes are gone, and the sting of losing to teams they should have beaten definitely resonates with the big blue nation this year.

Texas A&M’s heartbreaker and apparently their focus
- Auburn 43, No. 15 Texas A&M 41 (4 OT): The Aggies’ shootout loss to Auburn was a brutal blow to their season. With an 8-3 record and virtually no playoff path left, Kentucky fans can relate to how close losses feel, see Georgia, though Kentucky would welcome a 41-point offensive explosion. It may take 100 overtimes for Kentucky to reach that number against an SEC defense this year.

Other programs feeling the pain outside the SEC
- Indiana falls to Ohio State: No. 5 Indiana was rolled by No. 2 Ohio State, 38-15, suffering its first loss of the seaso in a game that marked their first real competition. How will the committee rank them now?
- Colorado’s playoff dreams dimmed: Deion Sanders and No. 16 Colorado fell to Kansas, 37-21, taking a major step back in their playoff push out West.

Perspective for Kentucky Fans
As rough as 2024 has been, Wildcats fans aren’t alone in their heartbreak. The weekend served as a reminder that even the mighty—like Alabama—can stumble. Misery loves company of course, and there’s plenty to go around this Sunday. The challenge for Kentucky and others is turning frustration into fuel for the future.
