Kentucky football drags Tennessee down with them into the late night time slot
By Mark Knight
The SEC clearly has a place for the Kentucky Wildcats, and that's the 7:45 pm EST time slot. Oh, and on the SEC Network. This is the spot the SEC typically regulates to the matchups that generate not much excitment. It's meant for the fans of the teams playing and the football-obsessed who don't mind staying up until 1 am to watch any game.
The game will be played on November 2 at 7:45 pm in Knoxville, Tennessee on the SEC Network. This will be the fourth week in a row that Kentucky has received this time slot and network. No other SEC team has even been close to that amount. Tennessee, on the other hand, has had some of the more desirable time slots and networks.
This game is a rivalry game; it's hate week for both fanbases. There was a thought with that being the case, the game wouldn't surely be at 7:45 pm EST on the SEC Network, but to no avail. It actually was considered with Texas A&M vs. South Carolina. One of these two games was going to be on the primetime at 7:30 pm ABC, and one was going to be at 7:45 pm SEC Network. Sadly, the Aggies vs. the Gamecocks seems to be a more desirable matchup for the SEC.
Kentucky returns to the fake primetime spot with the SEC Network, this time dragging Tennessee down with them. Maybe it's because the Volunteers are already 16-point favorites, and ESPN only gives Kentucky a 9% chance of winning. Out of SEC vs. SEC opponents in week 10, that's the lowest odds. Even Florida is given a 20% chance against the Georgia Bulldogs.
I guess if you can't beat your rival, drag them down with you into the dregs of the SEC Network at the latest possible hour. Welcome to the Kentucky time slot, Tennessee. I hope you like staying up late. We have gotten used to it, or maybe some fans have just stopped watching and started getting sleep instead. Kentucky has yet to win an SEC game in this timeslot this season. This is the state of Kentucky football right now.
