The Kentucky Wildcats have picked up another transfer via the portal today, this time on the defensive side of the ball. Kevis Thomas, a transfer from the Maryland Terrapins, chose the Kentucky Wildcats over UMass, Tulane, and South Alabama. He was a player that Kentucky was recruiting out of high school but ultimately chose to go to the Terps.
Thomas has played the last two seasons for Maryland and has vastly improved in those two years. As a true freshman, he played in limited snaps and minutes and only recorded two total tackles. This year for Maryland, he was able to record 20 tackles, two pass defenses, and only allowing 17 catches on the season. He is a high-potential player with much more to offer as he continues to develop and log more snaps.
Thomas is going to be a day-one starter for Brad White and his defensive staff. While Kentucky only lost two defensive backs so far this offseason, one of them was an every-down back in Zion Childress. Childress has decided to go play in the NFL after using up his eligibility with Kentucky.
Thomas is now the 11th portal pick-up for the Wildcats. While Kentucky has lost 23rd, this is now about the halfway point of replacing and rebuilding via the portal. Thomas joins edge rusher Sam Greene, linebacker Landyn Watson, guard Joshua Braun, guard Alexander Wollschlaeger, wide receiver JJ Hester, tackle Wallace Unamba, quarterback Zach Calzada, tight end Henry Boyer, running back Dante Dowdell and nose tackle Jaden Williams.
The portal has continued to stay hot for Kentucky, and more will come and go as the offseason rolls on. To ensure you are staying up to date, click the link below to see who has left, who is coming, and which players have declared for the NFL draft.
