Kentucky fans troll Jay Williams over his condescending video
By Mark Knight
Jay Williams is an ESPN media personality and a former Duke Blue Devil winning the National Player of the Year award in 2002. He was on record during half-time of the Kentucky vs. Duke game that Duke had the "most talented roster" he had seen since 2001. He did heap praise on Kentucky and Mark Pope after the win over Duke in the Champions Classic when an ESPN reporter said, "Kentucky has peaked, right?" Jay Williams corrected her with: "No, they are not peaking. They are a team full of veterans who know how to play."
However, today, he released a video on X that was addressed to Big Blue Nation about Cooper Flagg and Duke, and it was not received well by Kentucky fans.
Most Kentucky fans had a similar reaction to this. Eye roll or frustration, or what is he doing?! There were a lot of posts that said something along the lines of, "2 days later, and he's still thinking about Kentucky." Which brings this one up, and it's funny:
However, some were more than just eyerolling with Williams. They were more mad than jovial: for being a jerk, for being condescending, for even feeling the need to post this video, and for seeing Jay Williams as a complete clown.
This could go on and on, and if you are really curious and you have an X account, feel free to go to the original post, click the three dots at the upper right corner of that tweet, click "post engagements," and then just start scrolling. It's full of BBN tired of Jay Williams's nonsense and condescending tone.
Or you know, be like this guy and just avoid the guy all together:
Here's the point that needs to be made after that weird video about how marketing works by Williams. Sell Cooper Flagg all you want. If anyone understands player marketing, it's Big Blue Nation. Kentucky has had many of those seasons. But winning is better than marketing, and Kentucky fans would now rather have the wins. BBN wants banners, final fours, and national championships. It's time to move beyond hype. Duke can have that nonsense, and Kentucky can have the wins.
