This offseason for the Kentucky football team has been anything but spectacular. There have been some fun additions in the portal, and the recruiting class was pretty good, but the losses in the portal, to the NFL, and the actual losses in the season are taunting the fanbase and football team. The coaching staff hasn't really picked up on this. It seems as if they are carrying on like nothing is the problem, and so when an important player in Hardley Gilmore IV slipped away from the Wildcats, the frustration bubbled over. It exploded when associate head coach Vince Marrow seemed to laugh about it.
While Coach Marrow intended to laugh about how there was tampering, the egg was back on Matt Rhule's face. Rhule was speaking about losing Dante Dowdell to Kentucky here but said, "There's nothing sudden about any of this." It was flipped back on him by a Kentucky media member after Nebraska grabbed both Dane Key and Gilmore from Kentucky. Marrow laughs about the tampering, but it's that "lol" at the end that got Kentucky fans really bothered.
The video above shows the comment section of that particular post. It was almost exclusively people slamming him for saying "lol." Comments like "4-8 are not a laughing matter" were probably the most common. Others noted how the "pot is calling the kettle black." More and more were slamming him than chiming in on the tampering allegations.
In the world of transfer portals and recruiting now, tampering is almost impossible because of agents. There is no rule that universities can't talk to agents; they just can't talk to the players until they are officially in. So, while coaches cry about tampering, it's not officially tampering with agents in between. This is the new day of college football, and it's the Wild West. However, Vince Marrow must learn to read the room before posting.
