Kentucky fans catch a lot of flack from other bases of support nationwide, and on a near-constant basis. Blue and white diehards are quick to hang their program's success over the heads of other teams and, in response, are given little grace when the Wildcats fall behind.
Yet, of all the things that the Big Blue Nation are chided for, the "best fans in the world" tag that generally comes attached to us is the one thing that is rarely challenged. The Cats faithful make away venues feel like Rupp Arena at least once per year, and show out in droves with high-fives and endless likes when a player commits to Kentucky.
This status was confirmed by a recent statistic posted on X by Jeff Fuller. In spite of one of the worst years in recent memory for Kentucky hoops, BBN led the nation in average attendance per game at home(19.7k). Basketball never stops in the bluegrass - at least, it doesn't for the boys in blue.
Basketball Never Stops
As Mark Pope's second-year squad ground to a confusing halt early in their campaign, Kentucky fans held on as the group fought injuries and tried to figure things out. The team seemed to be at their best in a late-January win over the Tennessee Volunteers at home.
And, while the Otega Oweh-led bunch never really scraped those highs again, they were supported the whole way through. This metric is a real testament to just how much this program means to the state of Kentucky, regardless of which way their luck is swinging.

Moving forward, too, Coach Pope's third team will need similar fire. It's a pivotal year for a staff that needs tournament success, although I know full well that BBN doesn't have to be told to turn the water on.
Keeping the Faith
The NIL era has undoubtedly complicated things, especially for a Kentucky team that underwent a seismic coaching change right in the midst of it. Coach Pope has the right mindset for the job, and he's clearly doing the most behind the scenes to make this thing work.
Until his third try touches the floor this fall, little can be said about the team, their ceiling, and what should be expected of them.
But what we know for sure is that they'll have the BBN at their backs all the way through, no matter how things shake out.
