This week, the Kentucky Wildcats get to play host to the darling of the NCAA, the Vanderbilt Commodores, who did something that no one thought they could do: knock off top-ranked Alabama. This Commodores team hadn't beaten Alabama in 23 attempts and finally broke through in Nashville last week. The field goals were torn down, marched out of the stadium, carried through the streets, and tossed into the river. It was one of the most shocking and exciting SEC games all year.

Many fans want to see a return of the black uniforms and for fans to wear black, making it a blackout game. Nothing has been announced from the University of Kentucky athletics yet about the uniform combo or any sort of blackout.

The question is, why? Sure, in 2015, it was awarded the uniform of the year by Uniform Swag. However, that's not enough of a reason. Other fans are pointing out that Vanderbilt has black as its primary color, so why would you wear black? Some even point out that the Vanderbilt fans who do show up will just blend into the blackout crowd, which could provide some motivation. The appeal seems to be coming from the idea of the nightcap game in the SEC and under the lights of Kroger Field.

The last two times the black uniform combo has been worn, it has been mixed with one win and one loss. Last season, they played in Lexington in the black uniforms against Missouri and lost 38-21. The season before is where the memories and magic was made when they took down LSU 42-21 to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Last season, when they beat Vanderbilt, it was on the road, so they were wearing the light uniform combination and went with the all-white. The final score in this contest was 34-17.

The University of Kentucky has yet to release the uniform combination for this weekend, but we will see if there was fan pressure or if it was part of their initial plan to go with an all-black look. UPDATE: Kentucky Athletics Department has now announced the game will indeed be a blackout for the fans with a black uniform combo.
