Kentucky basketball’s recruiting board just got a little longer.
Acaden Lewis, one of the top remaining point guards in the 2025 class, has officially committed to Villanova after decommitting from Kentucky earlier this spring. The 6-foot-3 DMV-area standout was considered the top pure point guard still on the board and a key target for Mark Pope’s new-look system in Lexington.
He’ll now join a Wildcats team and will be sharing a locker room with a familiar face: Devin Askew, the former Kentucky guard is still in college basketball.
With Lewis off the board, Pope and his staff aren’t wasting time. Kentucky has extended offers to several rising stars in the 2026 class.
⭐ Christian Collins
Kentucky recently offered Christian Collins, a high-flying forward who has skyrocketed into the top three of the national rankings after a string of dominant performances. Collins made an unofficial visit to Lexington and came away impressed, with Kentucky now squarely in the mix alongside bluebloods like Duke and Kansas.
He’s become one of the most coveted prospects in the 2026 class — and Pope is hoping to make a statement by landing a future All-American.
🛬 Christian Gibson
Class of 2026 guard Christian Gibson also made news this week after a reported visit from Kentucky assistant Mikhail McLean on Tuesday. Gibson, a 6-foot-4 four-star from the Houston area, is known for his athleticism and court awareness, and he confirmed the visit on social media.
While still early in the cycle for 2026 prospects, Kentucky has already shown it’s not waiting to build future backcourt depth.
📝 Anthony Thompson announces top 10
One of the biggest names in the 2025 class, five-star guard Anthony Thompson, just dropped his list of top 10 schools, and Kentucky made the cut. Thompson’s list includes:
- Kentucky
- Indiana
- Louisville
- Kansasa
- North Carolina
Kentucky remains a strong contender, with Pope’s guard-heavy system and NBA-style pace appealing to Thompson’s game.
👀 Jordan Smith visit
To close out the week, Kentucky visited 5-star guard Jordan Smith at his school on Wednesday. Smith, another elite 2025 backcourt target, has been generating major buzz on the grassroots circuit and is considered a top-five player nationally.
Pope and staff are clearly keeping guard recruiting as a top priority.
🔎 What’s next?
Kentucky has ground to make up after some early decommitments, but Pope’s staff continues to aggressively retool the recruiting board. With Collins, Thompson, and Smith among the most dynamic names still available — and younger targets like Gibson emerging — the future remains bright.
And in the NIL era, things can change fast.
