We are witnessing a stretch of basketball right now that is becoming the stuff of legends. Otega Oweh isn't just playing well; he is completely taking over the Southeastern Conference.
With his 24-point performance against Oklahoma, Oweh has now scored 20+ points in 8 of his 10 SEC games. That level of consistency is absurd.
More importantly, it translates to winning. Kentucky is 7-3 in those 10 games, and Oweh has found a newfound aggressiveness that this team desperately needed. He isn't waiting for the game to come to him anymore because he is taking it.
Jason Hart says Otega Oweh is 'a bad dude'
With Mark Pope leaving the postgame press conference early to reunite with his daughter, assistant coach Jason Hart stepped in to handle the media duties.
When asked about Oweh’s recent tear, Hart admitted that even the coaching staff is running out of ways to critique him.
"You know, we as coaches, you always want to nitpick, but he's a bad dude," Hart said. "He's consistent. He's our leader, and you know, at times I kind of be in awe watching him."
Hart noted that Oweh is playing at such a high level that he is fulfilling the highest of expectations."That's why he was Preseason SEC Player of the Year," Hart added.
Some players step up, and some crumble under pressure. Since his admission that he needed to be more focused and give more effort, Oweh has been the former.
The SEC POTY race
If these performances keep up, Oweh won't just be a "bad dude." He might be the SEC Player of the Year. While other players in the league have had big moments, nobody has been as consistently dominant night in and night out as Otega Oweh.
He is the engine driving this offense, and right now, nobody has an answer for him.
