Just a few months after the formation of the innovative Champions Blue LLC to run the athletic department, Kentucky fans are already seeing the ambitious results. The university has announced plans to move forward with a visionary multi-use facility that will be anchored by a new, dedicated practice facility for the Kentucky men's basketball team.

This project is more than just a new gym. It represents a major strategic investment in the future of UK Athletics and its partnership with the university's academic and healthcare missions.

The facility, which is a cornerstone of a developing "Sports Adjacent District," will also feature dedicated spaces for UK HealthCare Sports Medicine and sports-related research. This unique collaboration brings together athletics, healthcare, and academics under one roof.

"This project represents the kind of forward-thinking collaboration that defines our university’s mission," said UK President Eli Capilouto. "By bringing together athletics, health care and research, we are building a future where innovation and impact intersect."

Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart echoed that sentiment, stating, "This facility has the potential to elevate all our programs." One of the most significant benefits of the project will be its impact on women's sports. By relocating the men's basketball program, significant space will open up in the Joe Craft Center. This will allow for the creation of a reimagined complex dedicated entirely to women’s sports, right next to the recently renovated Memorial Coliseum.

This forward-thinking project is another sign of the aggressive strategy UK is employing to remain a powerhouse in the new era of college athletics, building on the momentum of a record-breaking media rights deal and a renewed commitment to investing in championship-level infrastructure.
