Mark Pope and his staff have set their sights overseas once again after landing Andrija Jelavic.

NBA Draft Analyst Krystan Peek, Kentucky has reached out to 6-foot-6 Italian wing Dame Sarr, a rising international prospect playing for FC Barcelona in the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. Sarr also recently represented the Italian national team and drew buzz for his performance at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland.

In that game, Sarr showcased his athleticism and scoring ability, finishing with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. He went 4-for-7 from inside the arc, 1-for-2 from three, and did it all in just 25 minutes of action — despite controversy surrounding his decision to play in the event after FC Barcelona told him not to.

A high-upside wing with room to grow

Sarr is exactly the kind of player that fits what Kentucky is targeting in the 2025 class — long, athletic, and full of untapped potential. While he’s still refining his skill set, especially his perimeter shooting, the upside is easy to see. He gets good elevation on his jumper, has a quick first step, and thrives in transition and attacking downhill.

The scouting report from NBAdraftboard.com describes him as a capable three-point shooter who needs to tighten up his form and consistency. He doesn’t always generate clean rotation on the ball and isn’t yet considered a knockdown shooter — but the mechanics and confidence are there.

Defensively, Sarr plays with energy but needs to become more disciplined. He can be prone to reaching and biting on fakes but has the tools — quickness, length, and strength — to be a versatile two-way player.

What this means for Kentucky

It’s still early, but interest from Kentucky signals the program’s intent to keep building out a versatile, positionless roster. Under Mark Pope, the Cats are showing a willingness to explore international options alongside their domestic targets.

Sarr would be a raw but dynamic addition. He fits the mold Pope is building in Lexington: athletic wings who can guard multiple positions and finish at the rim.

What is not clear at the moment is what Sarr's plans actually are. He may go pro, he may go the college route, or he may go back to Europe and play.

One thing is clear though: if Kentucky continues to pursue Dame Sarr, they’ll be betting on upside — and trying to bring a future pro to Lexington before the rest of the basketball world catches up.
