The AP top 25 poll is now out for the men and women. If you were hoping that the performance against Florida would be enough to keep the Cats in the top 25, your hope was misguided. The Cats drop back out of the top 25 after a one week re-emergence. But where do the women rank, and more importantly for the men, where are they in the NET?
Kentucky women's basketball rises after knocking off No. 14 Ole Miss
Kentucky was struggling with Teonni Key out, and then they were trying to find their way when she came back. Kenny Brooks made a change to the starting lineup, and the Lady Cats responded in a big way. They took care of business against Texas A&M, and they used a 19-0 run to speed away from a feisty Ole Miss team that clawed all the way back to within 6.
After winning 74-57, Kentucky jumped up two spots to number 16 ahead of a crucial closing section of the season. They will start a 3-game run that will decide their future on Sunday as they get the rematch with Vandy, this time in Nashville. Vanderbilt fell to Georgia but stayed at No. 5 in the polls.
Kentucky basketball stays pat in NET rankings
More importantly for the men is the NET ranking, the tool that is used to help the NCAA seed the NCAA Tournament next month. For Kentucky, they come in at 28th with 5 Quad 1 wins, against 7 Quad 1 losses. Right now, the only loss that really is hurting Kentucky is one they should not have taken.
Kentucky was up 8 heading into the final 4 minutes of the game against Missouri at home and collapsed; that is the lone loss below a Quad 1 for Kentucky.
That loss could come into play if Missouri struggles down the stretch or if the Cats are close to a seed line. It could cause them to move from a 6 to a 7 or even lower.
The Cats will be back in action tomorrow against Georgia in a late night fight at Rupp. Tip is scheduled for 9 PM.
