Kentucky baseball is riding high into the 2025 season, and the accolades are already rolling in. Senior catcher Devin Burkes has been named a Preseason All-American, while both Burkes and relief pitcher Robert Hogan earned Preseason All-SEC honors, the league announced. Burkes landed a spot on the All-SEC First Team, with Hogan securing Second Team recognition.

These honors come after the Wildcats made history last season with their first-ever trip to the College World Series, a feat in which both Burkes and Hogan played critical roles.

Burkes: The Backbone of the Wildcats

Hailing from Bradenton, Florida, Burkes has been the heartbeat of Kentucky baseball. Entering his third season as the Wildcats’ primary catcher, he’s already built an impressive résumé, guiding UK’s pitching staff to two Super Regionals, an SEC championship, and a College World Series appearance over the past two years.

At the plate, Burkes has been just as impactful. His career numbers speak for themselves:

  • 36 doubles, 2 triples, 15 home runs
  • 98 RBIs, 79 walks, 34 HBP, and 30 stolen bases
  • Two-time All-NCAA Regional honoree

His leadership, defensive prowess, and clutch hitting make him a key figure as Kentucky aims for another deep postseason run in 2025.

Hogan: The Bullpen Ace

Robert Hogan, a native of North Oak, Minnesota, proved to be a high-leverage weapon out of the bullpen last season. In 24 appearances, Hogan posted a 1-0 record with a 3.10 ERA, adding a crucial save while tossing 40.2 innings.

One of his biggest performances came in the Super Regional against Oregon State, where he delivered 2.1 scoreless innings to help clinch Kentucky’s ticket to Omaha. Now, as a senior, Hogan is expected to play an even larger role in keeping opposing offenses in check.

Big Expectations for Kentucky

With Burkes leading the way behind the plate and Hogan anchoring the bullpen, Kentucky is primed for another exciting season in the SEC. Their experience and leadership will be vital as the Wildcats look to build on last season’s historic run.

One thing is certain—Kentucky baseball is no longer just a contender. The Wildcats have arrived, and Burkes, Hogan, and the rest of the squad are ready to make more history in 2025.
