Kentucky baseball sweeps EKU as Chase Alderman settles in

Kentucky Wildcats baseball handled business in its home-and-home with Eastern Kentucky Colonels baseball, sweeping the midweek set while right-hander Chase Alderman showed signs of settling into his weekly role.

Kentucky baseball finished up its home-and-home with Eastern Kentucky last night as the Cats let Chase Alderman get his normal weekly start. The redshirt sophomore continues to give up base hits, but after a shaky performance against Morehead State, he has performed better.

In that shocking mid-week loss back in February, Alderman gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 3.2 innings of work. Last night against EKU, he again went 3.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs (1 earned). Overall, the young pitcher has 9 strikeouts and an ERA north of 5 through 11 innings of work. Things will definitely need to tighten up even more, but things are heading in the right direction.

In the first game of the series, the Cats dominated down in Richmond. After driving down I-75 from Lexington, the Cats run-ruled the Colonels 10-0 through 7. Freshman Will Coleman got the start (2 innings), but it was Tommy Skelding (4 innings) who did most of the work.

Bat Cat offense wakes up against EKU

After only scoring 9 total runs in the weekend series against St. John's, the offense put up 18 in the 2 games against EKU.

Every player who played in the 2 game series for Kentucky had at least 1 RBI, with the exception of Tagger Tyson, who was 1-4 in the mid-week clash. Led by Scott Campbell Jr. and Ethan Hindle, who both had 4 RBIs, the Cats were hitting .281.

Sweeping the mid-week games is something that Kentucky must do more often than not to keep up with a rugged SEC.

Tyler Bell still out indefinitely

To be 11-2 without Tyler Bell is quite a feat for this team. After losing Bell on opening day, the Cats have really come together and played inspired ball over the first 3 weeks of the season. Things will get significantly harder in just 9 days as SEC play starts.

For now, though, the Cats will host the Citadel for a weekend series starting Friday at 4 pm at Kentucky Proud Park. All games will be streaming on the SEC Network+ through the ESPN app.
