Kenny Brooks has put together a more than compelling team for Kentucky's 2026-27 season. Entering his third year behind the wheel, Brooks is still looking to replicate his past tournament successes in Lexington beyond the second round. Yet, as he continues to improve in the present, the Cats head coach is looking well beyond for some star-studded insurance for the future, too.
In a surprise commitment ahead of the holiday weekend, four-star center Jayden McClain has committed to Kentucky in the class of 2029, per KSR. It'll be a while before we see her take the floor, but the 6-foot-6 big is already one of the biggest early risers in women's hoops.
And not only is she a Wildcat, but the priceless moment of her commitment was caught on video and posted to social media. Check it out here:

The practice facility isn't where most decisions like these are made, but to see Brooks being taken off guard is a unique treat for fans who have watched his growth since being hired alongside Mark Pope in Lexington, back in 2024.
Spurning his hometown Virginia Cavaliers earlier this offseason was a bit of further confirmation that Brooks is really building something for the long run here in Lexington. And now, the pickup of McClain presents more evidence yet again. Something is brewing at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
McClain's Future Impact
McClain, again, may be three years out, but the Big Blue Nation can absolutely get a good idea as to what she's made of already. Not only is her size uncommon in the women's basketball realm, but the big is ESPN's No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2029 as well.
As a freshman last season, McClain averaged 12.8 points and, get this 4.7 blocks, earning her an all-state honorable mention in the process. That many blocks on any level will earn a prospect national recognition, but with multiple years ahead of her to develop before arriving in Lexington, the home-state recruit is tracking to be a real defensive menace by the time she's actually playing for Brooks.
There's little more we can do with this news for the time (besides brag about it), but this commitment can be lumped in with the rest of Brooks' offseason successes as a positive sign of the program's continued growth.
Good is no longer good enough for Kentucky Women's Basketball. Kenny Brooks is striving for greatness on a nationally competitive level, and Jayden McClain coming to Kentucky is prime proof that he's getting closer and closer to that goal.
