Kenny Brooks has officially notched his first transfer portal addition as Kentucky women's basketball head coach, bringing in a familiar face to Bluegrass fans. Josie Gilvin, a Louisville native and former WKU standout, is headed to Lexington after a breakout junior season, giving the Wildcats an immediate boost on both ends of the court.
The 6-foot guard is coming off her best collegiate campaign, averaging 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.6 steals per game while shooting an efficient 53.2% from the field and 41.3% from three. She also knocked down nearly 80% of her free throws, showcasing a polished offensive game that’s steadily evolved each season.
Gilvin's impact goes beyond scoring. Her court vision, defensive instincts, and toughness on the glass make her a complete player who can contribute right away. She started all 32 games for WKU last season, logging over 31 minutes per contest and emerging as a team leader.
For Brooks and the Wildcats, Gilvin helps fill the offensive void left by Dazia Lawrence, who was the third leading scoring last year. While Lawrence’s shot creation and athleticism will be missed, Gilvin brings a steadier hand and shooting efficiency that should complement Kentucky’s returning core and incoming freshmen.
A product of Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Gilvin stays in her home state and gets to play at the highest level of SEC basketball. Her journey is a reflection of steady growth—going from a role player to a leading scorer, and now stepping onto a bigger stage with proven production.
As Kentucky continues to retool through the transfer portal, her commitment is a strong first move that sets the tone for what’s to come.
What’s Next?
With Gilvin now on board, Kentucky still has room to add more talent, there is no replacing Georgia Amoore but the Cats have to try. Look for Brooks and his staff to remain active in the portal in the coming weeks as the roster takes shape heading into 2025.
