The whole of Lexington groaned last week when Mark Pope confirmed that Kam Williams underwent surgery on his previously injured foot. Williams has become a favorite of the Big Blue Nation, and the prospect of him missing time - which seemed surefire - had Cats fans in worry mode already. Yet, Williams himself has come along to dispel those worries.
In a declaration of toughness that only he could’ve delivered, Williams, per KSR, says that he doesn’t expect to miss any time this season… come again? The dude was just seen in a boot showing out for a La Familia game. But with the season just a few months out, Williams has no intention of being sidelined.
"“You’ve got to listen to it,” Williams said of his foot injury, which initially saw him sidelined in January. “I don’t want to miss out on any more time, so I’m going to do all that I can, and whenever it tells me that it wants to take a break, I take a break.”
When it comes to being ready for Kentucky's season-opener in early November, Williams dropped a simple response for Kentucky fans: "For sure."

And all of Lexington exhales. With the pressure at a new high in Coach Pope's third season, the news of Williams' pure grit (now for the second time) could be a saving grace for the incoming campaign.
Kam Williams' Grit Could Save Kentucky's Season
That isn't to say that Kentucky's season is already in need of saving, but one look at last year's roster tells you everything you need to know about what injuries like this can do to a team. Jaland Lowe going down in the preseason set a negative tone for the 2025-26 Cats and, at first, Williams' surgery seemed to ring the same sour tune.
Even as Pope tried to softly reassure Cats fans of his eventual debut, the prospect of the Wildcats tackling their non-conference schedule without a crucial returner was chilling. We saw that whole song and dance last season; nobody is ready for another blowout on a neutral floor.
But from all angles, including Williams' own, we shouldn't have to worry about that. I guess we should've seen this coming since, after all, this is the same guy who broke his foot and returned within two months without surgery.
Given that this is the very same injury, and that we still have three full months and some change before the season actually begins, the BBN can be comfortable taking Williams at his word. Starting the season with this experienced three-ball weapon in the rotation would be a huge win for the Cats.
Now, we can actually look forward to that being the case. Fingers crossed for a clean offseason from here on out, and an especially speedy recovery for #3.
