The Transfer Portal doesn’t care about timing, storylines, or how attached fans feel to a player. It just keeps spinning. But lost in that, is sometimes you only get a short time with a guy who you would have loved to have around a couple more years.
His farewell message comes only hours after fellow defender Landyn Watson revealed that he would be entering the Transfer Portal. Two edge players in one day is never ideal, especially in the middle of a coaching transition. But it’s Olds’ path and his goodbye that really stand out.
Kentucky football EDGE Kam Olds sends heartfelt message to BBN
Olds has already lived a full college football life. He started at Buffalo, moved to Kent State, came to Kentucky, and now will prepare for the NFL. Along the way in college, he flashed real ability, including a strong 2024 season with 42 tackles and six sacks. In 2025, his role shrunk, ending with 16 total tackles and half a sack.
What hit Kentucky fans hardest was his farewell message on X. He didn’t mail it in. He chose his words carefully.
“First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for the extraordinary experiences and opportunities He has given me. I’m truly grateful for the people he has placed in my life this past year. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Kentucky for providing me with the invaluable opportunity to showcase my talents during my final year of collegiate football. I extend my heartfelt thanks to my teammates, coaches, and training staff for their unwavering support and guidance throughout my journey… Go Big Blue!"
That’s the reality of the portal era. Guys only get one year sometimes, but it doesn’t mean their time didn’t matter. Olds didn't have the year I am sure he expected, but he is headed towards a professional career now. As Will Stein shapes the roster to fit his style, departures both to the pros and to the portal will happen.
But the way Olds said goodbye made it clear: his time in Lexington wasn’t just another stop. It meant something. And that’s what a lot of Kentucky fans will remember.
