Big Blue Nation is one of the best fanbases in all of sports. Not many fanbases in the world would sell out a press conference to announce a new basketball coach or sell over 20k tickets in 26 minutes to a glorified practice and hype event (Big Blue Madness). They may argue about standing and sitting, but their passion is undeniable. Jeff Goodman came out with his top 10 Craziest fanbases in hoops for 2024, and Kentucky tops the list. He said, "No. 1 Craziest was easy. After that, it’s a tough call."
The picture complements the graphic well because it was at Big Blue Madness that all the players and coaches were introduced from the stands in Rupp Arena. An ode to Big Blue Nation as being part of the success of Kentucky basketball. Head coach Mark Pope talks about BBN all the time in his press conferences and interviews. When asked what the basketball players would be doing in New York City before their Madison Square Garden matchup against Ohio State, Pope said he couldn't say because BBN would show up everywhere they went. He laughed about it, but it's true.
He also was in an interview this week with Jim Rome and said, "It's fun; our guys get it from the first moment that their name is mentioned as a potential recruit by the University of Kentucky. It is a torrential onslaught from our fanbase on social media." He said that recruits are then recruited on their visits from fans on the plane, in the airport, on the visit itself. They are passionate and pack out stadiums.
This fanbase should be proud to be this passionate and this "crazy," as Goodman rated Big Blue Nation. It's an honor, and the players and recruits feel it. Even the coaches feel it and see it. Associate coach Alvin Brooks III was among the first to shoutout the above Field of 68 post.
Good on you Big Blue Nation, keep it up, keep it positive, keep it exciting.
