The annual East-West Shrine game presents college players to showcase their talents in front of NFL scouts from all 32 teams. The game has featured many NFL legends including Tom Brady, Walter Payton and John Elway. Several current NFL stars like Brock Purdy and Zay Flowers have also played in this game. Jamon Dumas-Johnson will represent the University of Kentucky in this years game as he hopes to improve his NFL stock and get the Cats another LB in the NFL.
Already making an impact in practices
Jamon wasted no time in making his mark on the practices leading up to the game. Picking off a pass from Syracuse QB Kyle McCord and running it back for a tuddy.
Before Kentucky
Jamon Dumas-Johnson was a two-time national champion and former first-team All-American at UGA, before withdrawing from the draft and transferring to play his senior year for Brad White's defense at Kentucky. Many had hoped he would anchor another stout Kentucky defense and help lead the Cats to a successful season and a 9th consecutive bowl game.
Kentucky's season was far from successful, Kentucky would go 4-8, snapping the bowl streak and frustrating Big Blue Nation. It's safe to say this wasn't the season Johnson had in mind when he transferred to Kentucky. Although the season was a disaster for the team, Johnson put together some strong numbers. His 67 total tackles (39 solo, 28 assist) were the second-highest in his career. He also had 3.5 sacks. Johnson's best was in Knoxville against Tennessee where he had 14 total tackles, 7 solo, and a sack.
