A rare meeting with history

This exhibition marks a rare encounter between two storied programs. Their most famous meeting came in the 1984 Final Four, where Kentucky suffered a stunning second-half collapse to lose 53-40 to Patrick Ewing and the Hoyas. They scored only 11 points in the second half after leading by 7 at halftime. Their only other official game was a Georgetown win back in 1921.

Ed Cooley is in his 3rd season at Georgetown and led the team to a 9 game improvement, winning 18 games in year 2. The Hoyas won their first exhibition over George Washington and will rely on KJ Lewis and Caleb Williams, no not the quarterback.

What to Watch For

With Jaland Lowe (shoulder) and Jayden Quaintance (ACL recovery) still sidelined, this game offers another valuable opportunity to evaluate rotations and offensive flow. Key areas to monitor include:

  • Point Guard Play: How does Collin Chandler and/or Denzel Aberdeen manage the offense?
  • Frontcourt Development: Continued growth from Brandon Garrison and Malachi Moreno.
  • Shooting Consistency: Can players like Trent Noah and Kam Williams find their rhythm?

While improvement and execution are more important than the final score in exhibitions, Kentucky enters as the clear favorite. Expect the Wildcats to control the game while working on refining their system before the season opener next Tuesday.

Prediction: Kentucky 81, Georgetown 67.
