The latest round of upsets and losses among top-ranked teams during feast week (you can read about the biggest winners and losers of feast week here) has cleared the way for the SEC to dominate the top five in college basketball.

When the new polls come out, expect to see four SEC powerhouses—Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn—solidify their spots among the nation’s elite in the top 5.

Auburn stays strong
Auburn continues to lead the SEC charge. Ranked No. 4 in both the AP and Coaches Polls, their recent win in the Maui Invitational over Iowa State, North Carolina, and Memphis, further cements their position. With a perfect record and no signs of slowing down, Bruce Pearl’s squad is a lock to stay in the top five this week, and my even jump to number 1.

Tennessee surges higher
Tennessee has been dominant so far this season, ranked No. 7 in the AP and No. 6 in the Coaches Poll. The Volunteers’ consistency and impressive performances are exactly what poll voters value, especially with teams like UConn, Gonzaga, and Houston slipping. Look for Tennessee to climb into the top five when the new rankings are released.

Kentucky’s ascent
Kentucky, led by Mark Pope, is also undefeated and currently sits at No. 8 in both polls. With chaos above them and strong performances from players like Koby Brea, the Wildcats are poised to move up. Big Blue Nation should celebrate as Kentucky returns to its rightful place among college basketball’s elite.

Alabama joins the party
Alabama has been quietly making its case for a higher ranking. Ranked No. 9, they’ve capitalized on a strong schedule, and with other teams faltering, their solid play will likely push them into the top five this week as well.

SEC’s national statement
With four of the top five teams likely coming from the SEC, this week’s rankings will showcase the conference’s strength top to bottom. The SEC has firmly positioned itself as the most dominant league in the nation in the first month of college basketball.

The Jayhawks haven't lost, but they may be jumped on the back of Auburn's impressive week, however they shouldn't be demoted just yet.

2. Auburn

The tigers had an amazing performance in Maui, and have established themselves as national contenders early on.

3. Tennessee

The Vols are once again rolling as Rick Barnes has a team that has a little bit more spark offensively.

4. Kentucky

Kentucky has a massive week with a trip to Clemson and a west coast journey to play Gonzaga, for now the Cats should climb into the top 5.

5. Alabama

The Tide have lost but with everyone losing in front of them, a return to the top 5 for Nate Oats and the Tide is in the cards.

For Kentucky fans, this shift highlights the Wildcats’ return to prominence while underscoring the intensity and parity that exists in the best basketball conference in America. It’s a great time to be part of Big Blue Nation!
