Unprecedented! That's a great way to describe the 2024-2025 Basketball season at the University of Kentucky

Two new coaches were brought on board to lead the men's and women's teams. Mark Pope, a former UK player took most of the spotlight and received plenty of media attention, so I won't delve into his first season in this article. We are here to discuss the incredible things Coach Brooks is doing with the Lady Cats. A crazy successful year that is being spearheaded by the teams leader, Georgia Amoore who leads the country in assists.

Kenny Brooks who is in his first season as Head Coach after being hired from Virginia Tech has the UK women's team off to a blistering start. The #11 Wildcats are 8-2 in SEC play, 19-3 overall, and that includes last night's loss to Ole Miss.

It has been an incredible season thus far, and with each passing game, Amoore continues to impress. Through 21 games, Amoore has 157 assists, good for 7.5 per game and #1 in the country. Amoore has 8+ assists in 14 games this season. Those numbers are no surprise to those who knows her game.

Amoore was a coveted transfer who played 4 seasons under Brooks at Virginia Tech. She was a part of the 2023 Final Four team, and ended her career as the all-time assist leader in Virginia TTech history.

Now in her first year as a graduate student at Kentucky, Amoore is continuing the work she did at Virginia Tech. However, she not only helps her teammates score, she can light it up as well. In a recent game against #15 Oklahoma, Amoore had 43 points, tying a school record set by Rhyne Howard in January 2020.

After that game, Coach Brooks had this to say about his star PG “Georgia was terrific in everything that she did today, Not only in points, but she just really controlled the tempo, got the basketball where we needed it, controlled the team when we were in foul trouble in the first half."

Controlling the team is exactly what Amoore has done all year, she is the epitome of a true floor general and has the Kentucky Women's team poised for a great run in March.

You can catch Amoore and ##8 Kentucky (19-3, 8-2) next in action Thursday, 2/10/25 as they take on the #3 Texas Longhorns at 7:00PM.
