The 2024 season brings renewed excitement for Kentucky men’s basketball and the fans. Now, under the leadership of Head Coach Mark Pope, the Cats signed two in-state kids and a former BYU recruit. Travis Perry, Trent Noah, and Collin Chandler are the team's lone freshmen this year, a vast departure from the 5-7 every year under former head coach John Calipari. Each player has a unique skill set and is expected to have roles in Kentucky's quest for number 9.

1. Travis Perry

Coming off a historic high school career, Perry is Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer with over 5,000 points and a state champion, defeating fellow Cat Trent Noah and Harlan County in the state championship. Known for his sharpshooting, Perry brings an impressive offensive arsenal that includes an effective three-point shot and decision-making. His high basketball IQ and ability to score from the perimeter could be pivotal in Pope’s system, predicated on passing and shooting.

Freshman forecast- Reserve role. Perry will see more limited minutes this year unless Kriisa or Butler pick up foul trouble or Kentucky needs an offensive spark. His shooting and passing will prove handy as the season goes on and will provide a good backup PG.

Exhibition stats (combined)- 21 minutes, 5 points (2-8 shooting), 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals

2. Trent Noah

Noah is widely regarded for his physicality and willingness to get in the paint and rebound. He does all the little things you ask a player to do that don't show up on the stat sheet but lead to wins. Noah complements his defense with a solid rebounding ability, good court vision, and passing. He is also very effective at the mid-range game and has a limitless range from 3. His versatility on both ends of the court allows him to match up well against various playing styles, which will be invaluable this season. Notably, Noah was never contacted by former coach Cal and his staff an had committed to South Carolina. Once Pope came in, he thought he may have a chance and de-committed. Kentucky fans are glad he did.

Freshman Forecast- Noah should see double-digit minutes all year long and contribute to the team in a lot of ways, though not all will show up on the stat sheet. Expect Noah to have the best all-round season in this Freshman class.

Exhibition Stats(combined)- 26 minutes, 15 points (5-8 shooting), 5 rebounds, 1 assist,

3. Collin Chandler

Collin Chandler rounds out the trio with exceptional athleticism and all-around playmaking skills. Known for his scoring ability and speed out of high school, Chandler took time off to fulfill a Morman mission. He is particularly effective in transition, where his athleticism shines. Has great playmaking skills and will have some highlight passes. Pope has noted they are ramping him up slowly after being off for 2 years. Pope has experience with returning missionaries from his time at BYU.

Freshman Forecast-Not ready to play extended minutes just yet, but he is getting back into the flow. I think by mid-season we will get an idea of where he will be. A good role player who comes in and provides a spark of energy is where I see him currently, but if his progression keeps climbing, he may push for a starting job.

Exhibition stats(combined)- 36 minutes, 13 points (5-12 shooting), 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal.

There you have it; I believe Trent Noah will make the most impact as a freshman this year, though Chandler may have the better stats. BBN, what do you think?
