Former Wildcat Justin Edwards wins friendly wager over Ex-Duke star Jared McCain
By Mark Knight
The fallout from the Kentucky vs. Duke game in the Champions Classic continues after a huge upset win for the Wildcats over the Blue Devils. This time, in a friendly teammate-to-teammate wager in the NBA ranks, Former Wildcat Justin Edwards bet against Jared McCain, who used to be a star for Duke, over who would win the game. The loser would have to wear the opposing team's gear to practice the next day.
Well, we know how that ended, and Jared McCain had to wear a Kentucky shirt under his 76ers practice gear. He didn't look pleased about the arrangement, but a bet is a bet, and he served his sentence.
Wearing the other team's swag is one of the best friendly wagers you can make in sports, especially in a rivalry like Kentucky and Duke. The last thing anyone from either side wants to do is wear the other's gear. They definitely don't want video or photo evidence of said event; McCain isn't so lucky on either event.
Edwards and McCain both currently play for the Philadelphia 76ers, but their blood runs blue, but with very different tints. While Edwards has yet to get into the game so far in this young NBA season, McCain is contributing in all 10 games with 11.5 points a game. The star for the 76ers is former Kentucky Wildcat Tyrese Maxey, who, until his recent knee injury, was averaging 27.6 points a game. The 76ers have started the year in a rough way, though, with a 2-8 record.
Kentucky and Duke are rivals both on and off the court, and trash-talking and bet wagering go hand in hand. It's been years since Kentucky was on the winning end of all that talking and betting. So, let's revel in it and watch Duke fans try to figure out how to get star freshmen to play together while the Kentucky veteran team scrapes together big wins. Bet responsibly or hilariously.
