Kentucky fans were so excited to see what women's basketball star Georgia Amoore was going to do in the WNBA with the Washington Mystics. The No. 6 overall pick was slated to be a key component of Mystics lineup this season, but sadly, she won't even get to step on the court this year.

The Mystics announced that Amoore suffered a torn ACL in Tuesday's practice and she will be out for the season. The announcement was brief as the team said that she would begin treatment and rehabilitation next, and an update will be given when it is appropriate.

Georgia Amoore was set to maker her league debut this weekend

Amoore's injury comes just days into the practice schedule for the entire WNBA. With the draft taking place just weeks after the NCAA women's season ended, Amoore has not had much time off between her college season and her soon-to-be professional season.

The Mystics drafted Amoore with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. After spending four seasons at Virginia Tech, Amoore transferred to the Kentucky Wildcats for her final college season and was the heart and soul of the Wildcats team. In her one season at Kentucky, Amoore played and started all 31 games, averaging 19.6 points per game and 6.9 assists. However, her range made her so dangerous as she shot 42.3% from the floor and 33.6% from 3-point range.

Amoore was set to have a fantastic rookie season with the Mystics alongside second-year Aaliyah Edwards, fellow rookie Lucy Olsen out of Iowa. The news of Amoore's injury comes just days before the Mystics' first preseason game of the season on Saturday, May 3, against the Indiana Fever.

This injury will, unfortunately, take Amoore out for the entire season, and depending on how her rehab goes, potentially the beginning of next season as well.
