Averaged 17.0 PPG and 7.7 RPG in three games last season.
The Journey So Far
Hopkins arrived at Kentucky as a highly-touted recruit but struggled to find consistent minutes under Calipari during the 2021-22 season, averaging just 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in a limited role across 28 games. Seeking more opportunities, he transferred to Providence, where he thrived.
In the 2022-23 season, Hopkins posted impressive stats with 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 45.2% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc. His standout play continued into the 2023-24 season with 15.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game over 14 games. And even in limited action this season, he’s averaged 17.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
The “Do Not Contact” Tag
Interestingly, Hopkins entered the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag. What does that mean? Simply put, it indicates that Hopkins likely already has a destination in mind and does not want other schools reaching out to his representation. Kentucky fans are already speculating that the Wildcats may be his intended landing spot.
Kentucky’s Interest
Matt Jones of KSR recently hinted that Kentucky has a star player in mind. Could Hopkins be that player? With Mark Pope now at the helm of Kentucky basketball, the possibility of a reunion could be on the horizon. Hopkins’ ability to score at all three levels and dominate the glass would certainly be an asset for Pope’s squad.
What’s Next?
The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, and all eyes will be on where Bryce Hopkins lands. Will he return to Lexington to show what he can truly do in a Kentucky uniform? Stay tuned, Big Blue Nation. This could get exciting.
