If there’s one voice that still makes college basketball feel like college basketball, it’s Dick Vitale. The man who made phrases like “Diaper Dandy!” and “PTPer, baby!” part of the sport’s DNA is back doing what he loves most, talking hoops and making people smile.
After battling through cancer and returning to the booth last season, Vitale’s enthusiasm feels stronger than ever. And this week, that energy brought some high praise straight to Big Blue Nation.
'Most impressive TEAM'
On X (formerly Twitter), Vitale shared his early impressions of the top teams, and he didn't hesitate to single out the Wildcats after their statement win over No. 1 Purdue:
The most impressive TEAM from the elite conferences I have seen early is definitely KENTUCKY @KentuckyMBB - don’t ask me ask @BoilerBallthe dominant Diaper Dandy @DukeMBB CAMERON BOOZER -ask @Vol_Hoops as Cameron led Duke to a tough win 83-76 with 24 pts 23 rebs-6 assists

“The most impressive TEAM from the elite conferences I have seen early is definitely KENTUCKY @KentuckyMBB — don’t ask me ask @BoilerBall!”
He then referenced Duke's recent win over Tennessee, driven by Diaper Dandy Cameron Boozer, who has looked amazing in the preseason so far. But we can forgive him for mentioning Duke and Kentucky in the same post for now. That is not all that he said that should make BBN happy.
Oweh earns 'Rolls-Royce' honors
Dickie V didn’t stop there. He also released his annual Diaper Dandy (top freshmen) and All Rolls-Royce (top upperclassmen) teams. While no Wildcats cracked the freshman list, senior guard Otega Oweh earned a spot on the prestigious Second-Team All Rolls-Royce squad.
Oweh joined Donovan Dent (UCLA), Nick Martinelli (Northwestern), Emmanuel Sharp (Houston), and Trey Kaufman-Renn (Purdue) on the second team. Vitale's recognition highlights Oweh's status as one of the premier veteran guards in the country heading into the season.
Kentucky fans will get another look at this deep, exciting group Friday night when the Wildcats host Georgetown in their final exhibition game. With Dickie V already singing their praises, the buzz around Mark Pope’s team is undeniably building.
