DeMarcus Cousins doesn't want to 'overthink this' in hiring new athletic director

Well that is an emphatic endorsement.

Mitch Barnhart is going to step down; we all know that for sure. He will go into a special advisor role on July 1st, 2026. He will not be involved in athletics, at least not officially. So, that leaves us with questions on who to actually hire to replace Barnhart.

One Kentucky legend, believes he already knows the man who should be hired, DeMarcus Cousins believes the only choice is DeWayne Peevy.

DeMarcus Cousins endorses DeWayne Peevy

Cousins was never one who would shy away from telling the world what he thinks. He is going to speak his mind, and you can either agree or disagree. After the Barnhart news broke, Boogie took to X to do just that.

Boogie worked with Peevy when he and Cal were ruling the college basketball world, and most fans want to get back to that time. You have a large portion of the fanbase who would be so excited for a Peevy return. He helped bridge the gap from Cal to Barnhart and kept the program rolling despite the two men being very different.

But there is a whole other side of the fanbase who is ready for a clean break. This group sees a Peevy hire as risky because of continuation. He worked under Barnhart and they seem him as someone who would continue the policies of Mitch Barnhart, which they believe have failed.

Specifically, the NIL world and the contract with JMI. They want a clean break, hire a brand new staff and let the athletic department shake off the staleness fo 24 years.

Personally, I would love to see a DeWayne Peevy-Kentucky reunion. The man has got new facilities built at DePaul. He has worked at Kentucky and knows the boosters and how things work. I don't think he would just continue the Barnhart policies, and I think he would make a fine AD.

I don't have as much sway as someone like Boogie, but I definitely see the good in hiring DeWayne Peevy. Do you?
