For years, the biggest question surrounding Kentucky football has been: "Where is the quarterback?"
Stoops could never develop a high school qb, so he turned to JUCO and the Transfer Portal. It was always spotty there too, sometimes you had a Will Levis and sometimes you ended up with a Zach Calzada. For the first time in a long time, the answer is finally on the roster from high school. Cutter Boley looks like the real deal. That is why that scary nexk injury had a lot of people gasping.
The freshman has taken massive strides in 2025. His numbers show a clear trajectory:
- Completion %: Up to 67.3% this year
- Yards: Over 2,000 yards in the SEC
- TDs: 15 with at least one game to go
Yes, the interceptions (10) are still high, but that happens when a young QB is forced to play hero ball in an offense that lacks explosiveness. The arm talent is undeniable.
The portal threat
But in modern college football, having a talented young quarterback is terrifying.
Kentucky fans aren't paranoid for worrying. We know what comes next: tampering. Other schools, with bigger NIL budgets, "QB Guru" coaches, and flashy offenses will come calling. It’s inevitable.
Stoops tries to calm the rocky waters
Mark Stoops addressed the elephant in the room today, offering a reassuring quote:
"He wants to be here and we just got to make sure we build a good team around him."
It’s exactly what you want to hear. But it’s also November. As we know all too well, November is "Lying Season."
The verdict
Right now, Boley surely believes what he is saying. He loves Kentucky. He is a homegrown talent.
But when December hits and the offers start flying and if Kentucky's offensive staff undergoes changes things can shift overnight.
If Stoops is right, Kentucky has its franchise cornerstone for the next two years. If he's wrong? Well then you start over again, and the track record isn't that good.
For now, BBN should choose to believe. But they'll need to keep one eye open until the portal closes in January.
