Cutter Boley is hitting the Transfer Portal, there are rumors out there that he just didn't want to compete for the starting job again. That may, or may not, be the case but what is clear is he will be playing elsewhere in 2026. And the rumored landing spot, Arizona State, makes a lot of sense.
Cutter Boley goes from Kentucky proud to Sun Devil Ditat Deus
Ahead of the Louisville game, Cutter made a statement. He had custom cleats made with the jersey's of all the in-state QB's who played at Kentucky. Guys like Billy Jack Haskins, Jared Lorenzen, Tim Couch, Andre Woodson, Patrick Towels and Bill Ransdell.
And now he will be playing home football outside the state of Lexington for the first time in his life. Growing up in Kentucky, playing at LCA, and then heading to Kroger Field for the Cats was his dream. That became a reality. Now the reality has changed.
Sam Leavitt was the leading man for Arizona State before deciding to enter the Transfer Portal, and Kenny Dillingham is looking to replace him with Cutter Boley
Cutter Boley and Sam Leavitt are two sides of the same coin
If you take a look at the stats, you can see why Boley wants to go to Tempe, and why Dillingham wants him to.
Boley finishes his Kentucky career with 2498 yards, 17 TDs, 16 INTs, and 2 rushing TDs. He has a huge arm and can make all the throws. Leavitt leaves Arizona State with 4513 yards, 34 TDs, 9 INTs, and 10 rushing TDs. He is definitely the more productive of the two, but the traits is where you will find the similarities.
Neither guy is going to win a 40-yard dash, but both are athletic enough to make plays with their legs when things go south. Both guys have elite arm talent, they can make any throw on the field. Leavitt is more polished as a passer, but Boley has more upside if he can be developed.
Where does Kentucky football turn?
There are plenty of names in the portal already that make a ton of sense for Kentucky. Will Stein, Joe Sloan, Pat Biondi and the new look staff need to get to work immediately to secure their starting QB. Whomever it will be will be the 4th different starter heading into the season for Kentucky.
At a position where stability is needed, Kentucky has been incredibly unstable. Will Stein will look to change that with Matt Ponatoski and whomever joins the Cats in the portal.
