Vince Marrow is Kentucky football's associate head coach alongside Mark Stoops. He is also the primary recruiter of the Kentucky Wildcats, handling a lot of the contact and relationships for prospects. He already mulled over and turned down an opportunity to go to Louisville in a similar position. Would he consider going to North Carolina to work on Bill Belichick's staff? That's the latest scoop, that he's considering it.
According to both FootballScoop.com and brought forward by Matt Jones of KSR, who is known to be friends with Marrow. This seems to be more than a rumor and actually an opportunity for Marrow.
"Per sources, Belichick and Marrow have previously known each other and share representation."FootballScoop.com
Belichick negotiated with North Carolina to get a nice assistant salary pool and could presumably offer Marrow more than what Kentucky is paying. It's also an opportunity for Marrow to actually be part of a rebuild instead of a pretend rebuild in a program that seems to be on the way down.
Kentucky had a football season full of turmoil, losses, and fan discontent. Much of Big Blue Nation is calling for Mark Stoops to leave on his own or be fired. However, with a $44 million buyout for Kentucky athletics, it would have to be the former and not the latter.
Why would this be a good fit for Belichick? It would add the combo he's looking for in an assistant coach: a strong recruiter, NFL experience, and a depth of college experience. This is something he would get in Marrow.
"Coaching in college for the first time ever, Belichick -- officially UNC's replacement for Mack Brown as of earlier this week -- is said to be assembling a blend of top-end recruiters and coaches with NFL teaching experience."FootballScoop.com
This may be the opportunity that actually draws Marrow away. We will see in the coming days.
