As a preface, I know that Big Blue Nation doesn't ultimately care what their guys are wearing so long as wins are coming in on a consistent basis. So long as the uniforms aren't red, I can't imagine Cats fans making much of a stink about any jersey choice. Then again, the black threads are always calling.
Black jerseys, while a rarity throughout Kentucky Basketball's history, have long been a fan-favorite. Entering this season, the arguably forgotten concept (at least recently) has been revived by none other than transfer guard Alex Wilkins.
Wilkins was asked by Malachi Moreno in a player-interview-player clip (per Nick Lazaroff) what type of themed game he'd want to have at Rupp Arena. His response was sure: "Blackout... We got to wear the black jerseys."

Trent Noah quickly sounded off in agreement, to which Wilkins added, "See? Trent knows swag." There's a "Trent Noahswag" joke in there somewhere, but I won't risk my own embarrassment to dig any further to find it.
On the subject at hand, John Calipari even acknowledged back in 2018 that fans were "begging" for the black jerseys. Of course, a lot more was going on than uniform changes at the end of Calipari's tenure, but this is a dream that Cats fans have never fully let go of.
And now, with an inside guy on their side, the BBN may have enough leverage to actually make this happen.
Pulling Off a Blackout at Rupp Arena
Imagining a full-on blackout at Rupp Arena, assuming we could get every single fan on board for such an occasion, is enough to give any fan immediate chills. Especially if it occured when, say, a Tennessee or Alabama came to town? That's another way to turn up the heat on a conference rival.
The last time Kentucky hoops wore the black jerseys in a regular season contest was all the way back in 2022, when an Oscar Thsiebwe-led Wildcats squad debuted the unis against Florida A&M. Kentucky won that game 88-68 and, since then, fans have held onto the clean look.
The closest we've had to that swag since was probably the denim uniforms last season, which spurred a wild home-court comeback against Tennessee at Rupp. That was an unforgettable game, and arguably a top-five moment for the 2025-26 squad that year.
If it's not about success, and the players and fans both want it... what are we waiting for?
I don't want to press too hard (please don't bring back the checkerboards), but this seems like an obvious win for all involved. Maybe Wilkins' public expression is just the beginning of another big-game rollout like the denim jerseys were last season.
