The Kentucky Wildcats have lost 21 players to the transfer portal and have yet to add any players to the depleted team. That all changed today as pass-rushing specialist Sam Greene became a Wildcat. He played the last two seasons for the USC Trojans.

Greene saw limited action in his freshman year for the Trojans, only having one tackle during the season, but last season, in his redshirt freshman year, he played a consistent part of the rotation for the Trojan defensive line. He had 15 total tackles and had one sack. He is hoping that a bounce to Kentucky will elevate his game even more as he moves into his sophomore year.

Kentucky lost basically all of their defensive line to the transfer portal or the NFL Draft. Keeshawn Silver, Tommy Ziesmer, Tyreese Fearbry, Noah Matthews, and Caleb Redd all transferred out. D'Eryk Jackson and Deone Walker have declared for the NFL Draft. Therefore, the addition of Greene came at an opportune time for a depleted line, and it may have been part of what sold Greene on Kentucky. As of now, he would be a starter.

Out of high school, Greene was a 3-star prospect rated by 24/7 Sports and made the decision to travel across the country to go to USC. He hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and Lexington, Kentucky, which puts him much closer to home and in the same time zone. Out of high school, this was his recruiting profile from 24/7 Sports:

"Has verified size and with plus length. Twitchy interior defensive lineman prospect with burst and ability to play with low center of gravity. Plays zero to 5-technique regularly at St. Frances...Must continue to develop backside pursuit and demonstrate consistent effectiveness outside of tackle box. Power 5 starting potential."

He won't be the last portal addition, but it feels good for Kentucky fans to see the first one come off the board, as so many have left.
