After a frustrating offensive night against Duke, Jaxson Robinson explodes in win over Lipscomb
By Mark Knight
Jaxson Robinson started the season on the Naismith watch list and has been a top performer all season. Duke had a plan to slow down Robinson, and they did, but ultimately, it didn't matter, as Kentucky was able to still get the big win. Robinson was visibly frustrated during the game with his offensive woes. You could see him leaving after the first half, with a towel over his head and a frown on his face.
The vibes were way different for Robinson against Lipscomb. Not only did the Wildcats win 97-68, but Robinson exploded in an offensive performance. The plan was clearly to get him going offensively and do it quickly. He was the leading scorer throughout the majority of the game and ended the night with 20 points. He shot 6-10 from the field and 3-6 from three.
This is what not only the fans and coaches wanted to see but also what Jaxson Robinson wanted from himself. After the game, he talked about the difference between the Duke game and the Lipscomb game: "I felt like I let the team down with my body language in the last game," he said.
He wasn't scared to take shots all night and lead his team in big ways. The Duke game didn't allow him to lose any confidence, and he was able to work off the ball and on the pass. He also was able to pick up 7 rebounds to go along with his 20 points. He often would even take shots that you wouldn't call "wide open." Here's a good example of his play:
Robinson and the Kentucky Wildcats are off until Friday when they take on Jackson State in the BBN Invitational. The tip-off time is 7 p.m. and will only be played on streaming devices with SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
