Former Kentucky wide receiver Brandon White is trading the bluegrass for the beaches, announcing his transfer to the University of Hawaii. The redshirt sophomore, known for his blistering speed, made the announcement Saturday on Instagram, signaling a fresh start with the Rainbow Warriors.
White, a Cincinnati native and a class of 2022 recruit, arrived at Kentucky as one of the fastest high school players in the country, boasting a 4.28-second 40-yard dash. Despite his speed and potential, White struggled to find opportunities in Lexington, playing in just six games across three seasons. His lone stat at UK? A single 19-yard kick return against Murray State in 2024.
The lack of opportunities didn’t dampen White’s determination. With two years of eligibility remaining, he heads to Hawaii looking to make an impact in an offense that will likely highlight his speed. The move out west offers a chance to revive his career and put his elite athleticism on display.
White follows a familiar path for Kentucky wide receivers. Dekel Crowdus, another former Wildcat, transferred to Hawaii ahead of the 2024 season. Crowdus made the most of his opportunity, recording 16 receptions for 402 yards and four touchdowns, including a 74-yard score, during his stint with the Rainbow Warriors. However, Crowdus recently entered the transfer portal again, seeking a new home after one season in Hawaii.
For White, the opportunity to join a program willing to spotlight his skillset is enticing. Hawaii’s offense has historically embraced speedsters, and the move could serve as the perfect platform for him to shine. While his time at Kentucky didn’t pan out as hoped, the transfer represents a clean slate and a chance to rewrite his football story in a vacation destination.
As White embarks on this new chapter, Big Blue Nation will be watching from afar, hoping he finds success in the Aloha State. With his blazing speed and determination, the Rainbow Warriors may have just found their next explosive playmaker.
