Kentucky football star running back Ray Davis will be the latest Wildcat to play in the NFL, as Davis announced on Monday afternoon that he will be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Here is what Davis said on X to the Big Blue Nation, coaches, staff, and teammates:
“First and foremost, I want to thank God for the position he has put me in today. To Big Blue Nation, thank you for showing me the best parts of college football. To the coaches and staff at Kentucky, thank you for allowing me to fine tune my skills and grow as a young man. To my teammates you will forever be my family.”
“After long talks with my family and friends, I will be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. This has always been a dream of mine and is a challenge I’m ready to take on. Forever the underdog.”
“#1 Signing Out.”
Davis will go down as one of the best running backs in Kentucky football history, even though he was only in Lexington for one season. Davis broke Kentucky’s single-season record for most total touchdowns, with 20. He passed the previous mark of 19 touchdowns set by Benny Snell Jr.
During his one season with Kentucky, he posted some great stats, including 186 carries for 1,066 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. You can add on 29 receptions for 317 yards and 7 touchdowns.
His best game as a Kentucky Wildcat was the 33-14 home win against #22 Florida. Davis recorded 280 rushing yards on 26 carries, with 3 rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown.
The game that the majority of Kentucky football fans will remember Davis for is his 3-TD performance against #10 Louisville. He had 14 carries for 76 yards and one rushing touchdown, four receptions for 51 yards, and two receiving touchdowns.
For Davis, the focus now shifts on preparing for the NFL Combine.
