Kentucky basketball opens the 2023-24 season Monday night against New Mexico State. There is as much hype heading into this season as any because the Wildcats have so many new faces.

The Wildcats are also heading into a new era without Oscar Tshiebwe. The big man was a key part of two Kentucky teams, but now the squad turns to a handful of freshmen, along with returning guard Antonio Reeves and transfer Tre Mitchell.

The Aggies went through a hectic offseason, parting ways with former coach Greg Heiar amid hazing allegations. Jason Hooten takes over as the team’s third coach in the last three years. It’s a much different roster makeup, but some players to keep an eye on are Western Kentucky transfer Jordan Rawls, UCF transfer Brandon Suggs, and Seton Hall transfer Femi Odukale.7-footer Davion Bradford could also give Kentucky some trouble inside.

It’s a good first test for a Kentucky basketball team we still don’t know much about. While the Aggies are a mid-major team, they have plenty of former power conference players who won’t be afraid of the Wildcats.
